General:

Ford rode a wave of popularity in the 1990s, thanks in part to the success of its Explorer midsize SUV. The ute was a hit and played a huge role in ushering in the era of the SUV. In 1999, Ford expanded its family yet again with the purchase of Volvo's car division, and, in 2000, it acquired Land Rover. For awhile, there was talk of Ford even taking General Motors' spot as the No. 1 automaker in the world.

But the new millennium has seen a downturn for Ford. Increased competition, legacy costs and a reliance on SUVs for profit have taken their toll. The brand has sold off Aston Martin, Jaguar and Land Rover to cut losses. While Volvo and Mazda remain in the fold, Ford Motor Company is attempting to claw its way back in the domestic market with better products and marketing. The future is uncertain, but if past business cycles are any indication, Ford will likely be seeing brighter days ahead.

3/5/2009 - Ford Super Duty Ambulance

We have seen many cars converted into emergency vehicles – but usually those vehicles are for police officers. Now we get a chance to see Ford giving back and offering a wide variety of emergency vehicles to paramedics through the use of their new 2010 Super Duty ambulance.

The ambulance is powered by a 6.8 liter V10 Triton engine that uses petrol. Before the Ford E-series vans were released they were powered by diesel engines. But now Ford has changed its course and making things more affordable for their consumers. This special ambulance has more speed for a reduced price. The engine has the ability to push out 305 horsepower and 420 pound ft of torque.

It is also equipped with many parts that you would find on a standard heavy duty van. Read the press release below for all of the specifications and more information from Ford.

PRESS RELEASE:

* Market-leading Ford E-Series Super Duty® makes its Ambulance Preparation Package available with a gasoline engine, providing more power for quicker response – configuration includes comprehensive package of heavy-duty components at a lower initial acquisition cost
* E-Series Super Duty Ambulance Prep Package offers a powerful, efficient and proven 6.8-liter Triton® V-10 gasoline engine, the TorqShift® five-speed automatic overdrive transmission and four-wheel anti-lock disc brakes
* Available for order this summer, the E-Series Super Duty Ambulance Prep Package is available in both van and cutaway configurations

CHICAGO, March 3, 2009 – A revised Ford E-Series Super Duty® Ambulance package for 2010 – featuring a proven 6.8-liter gasoline engine, a comprehensive array of heavy-duty components and a lower base model costs – will be unveiled today at the National Truck Equipment Association (NTEA) trade show.

“The E-Series Super Duty has been the historical market leader in the ambulance segment,” said Derrick Kuzak, group vice president of Global Product Development. “Listening to our private fleet and municipal customers, we’re seeing demand for a rugged, powerful ambulance – running on comparatively less expensive gasoline – at a lower initial acquisition cost.”

Powerful and Responsive
The 2010 E-Series Super Duty gas Ambulance Prep Package features a powerful, responsive and fuel efficient 6.8-liter Triton® V-10 engine. This proven powerhouse delivers 305 horsepower and 420 ft.-lbs. of torque for responsive acceleration in critical emergency run situations.

This engine is mated to a 5R110W five-speed automatic overdrive transmission. Several rear axle ratios are available to meet diverse regional needs, such as higher altitudes. Large diameter 13.58-inch disc brakes and Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) behind all four wheels will bring the E-Series to a smooth stop.

Built Ford Tough
The 2010 E-Series Super Duty Ambulance Prep Package features a comprehensive array of heavy-duty components specifically developed to meet the extreme service needs of ambulance use, including:

* Auxiliary heater and air conditioning connector package
* Available limited slip rear axle
* Super heavy-duty (225 amp) alternator
* Transmission cooler

The lower weight of the gasoline engine provides almost 600 pounds of additional payload capacity.

The Super Duty Ambulance Prep Package features proven ‘Built Ford Tough’ durability. In fact, there are more E-Series on the road with 250,000 miles – or more – than vans from any other manufacturer, based on R.L. Polk data for Ford vans from 1992-2006, in use as of March, 2007.

Safe and Clean
The Ford E-Series features standard air bags for both driver and passenger. The 2010 E-Series Super Duty gasoline Ambulance Prep Package also meets all applicable 2012 emission standards.

Cost-Consciousness
While final pricing has yet to be announced, two key elements position the E-Series Super Duty gasoline Ambulance Prep Package as the value-conscious entry in this segment.

Lower initial acquisition cost with the gasoline engine, as opposed to the incremental cost of a diesel powertrain, will make the gasoline-powered E-Series accessible to a wider audience of municipalities and private ambulance fleets.

The second element is the comparative cost of widely available unleaded regular fuel, as opposed to diesel fuel, also can represent a significant operational cost savings.

2/11/2009 - 2010 Ford Taurus SHO

The Ford Taurus has become an average and boring car that many consumers are trying to stay away from. In order to bring that image back into the spotlight they have chosen to bring back the SHO name and giving in more power than before with a V6 engine that pushes out 365 horsepower.

“The heart of any SHO is the motor,” said Ford’s group vice president of marketing and communications – Jim Farley. “The car has better performance and much better gas mileage than a BMW 550i, which uses a 4.8-liter V-8.”

The SHO was revealed to the public during the Chicago Auto Show and it did not fail to draw the attention that it has fought for. The base price for this new model will start a $37,995 – which includes shipping. The sales for the SHO will start in the fall.

The 2010 SHO will be given a twin turbo, direct injection, 3.5 liter V6 engine that has been engineered by Yamaha. The standard equipment comes with exclusive shocks and all wheel drive, springs, and sway bars. It has also been given a six speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters that have been places on either side of the steering wheel.

“I really think it is a significant product because it telegraphs how important driving feel and performance is to Ford and how we will be different as a car company,” said Farley.

2/5/2009 - Ford CEO Calls New Ford Fusion Hybrid Owners

Choosing a car is a tough decision for many of us. We test drive dozens of different types of cars from different companies trying to find one that has the safety, power, style, and price that we want. Right now many people are trying to decide whether or not they will choose the Ford Fusion Hybrid or the Toyota Prius as their next car.

Those who choose the Hybrid will be given a complimentary call from Alan Mulally – the CEO for Ford Motor Company. He apparently called up Michael Snapper – a lawyer from Grand Rapids, Michigan – and thanked him for choosing their car over the Prius. Now that is what I call customer service.

Obviously this is not very realistic or practical for Mulally to be doing when there are other tasks he should be worrying about. It is also an obvious publicity stunt in hopes that more consumers would want to receive a personal call for getting the right car. We want to know, does this call make you want to buy a Ford vehicle? As for Mulally we say good luck in the hundreds of phone calls you will have to make.

12/17/2008 - 2009 Ford F-150 Becomes Motor Trend’s Truck Of The Year

Motor Trend had two choices this year when it came to choosing which model would become the Truck of the Year for 2009. They could choose between the redesigned Ford F-150 and the Dodge Ram.

The F-150 proved to be the best selling truck in the United States thanks to its many tireless capabilities, affordable price, and the endless configurations. The Dodge Ram was also redesigned and received a much more masculine look to it. It also received the first ever set of coil-overs to prop up the rear axle for this segment.

Now there were other models to choose from like the Suzuki Equator, newly badged Nissan Frontier. And the Hummer H3T – but they could not compare with the Ram and Ford. After much deliberation Motor Trend chose the 2009 Ford F-150.

11/29/2008 - Ford Releases Pricing For 2010 Fusion Models

Ford has released big news this week concerning the 2010 Fusion. Today they launched their minisite to help promote the new redesigned mid size sedan. On the site you can take a look at the model and the pricing for each of the five different models it will be available in.

It begins with the Base Fusion S model – which starts at the price of $19,270 and is equipped with a brand new 2.5 liter four cylinder, six speed manual engine. The most expensive model is the Fusion Hybrid comes in at $27,270 – which is only slightly higher then the $26,150 for the Toyota Camry Hybrid.

Before you cringe at the price consider what it is produced with. The Fusion Hybrid is built with Ford’s brand new EcoAssist gauge cluster that may be worth the extra money. On top of that the fuel economy inside the city is at 39 mpg. This is 6 mph more than the Camry Hybrid.

Here is price list for the different models:

Fusion SE: $20,545 (2.5L 4, six-speed manual)
Fusion SEL: $23,975 (2.5L 4, six-speed auto
Fusion Sport: $25,825 (3.5L V6, six-speed auto with SelectShift)
Fusion Hybrid: $27,270 (2.5L Atkinson, E-CVT transmission
Fusion S: $19,270 (2.5L 4, six-speed manual)

10/30/2008 - Ford Pulls Cover Off Of 2010 Ford Fusion

Ford revealed the 2010 Ford Fusion and even though they only released one good picture of it we have a nagging feeling that they have finished all the work on it. In the picture you are able to catch a glimpse of the new face that has been equipped with a larger three-car grille, headlights, redesigned lower bumper, and a new hood.

With the new looks also comes the new engine options. There are three engines in the line-up to choose from. The first engine is a brand new Duratec 2.5 liter 4-cylinder engine that pushes out 174 horsepower and 172 pound foot or torque.

The second engine is a reworked version of the 3.0 liter V6 engine that pushed out 240 horsepower and 228 pound foot of torque. The third engine option is a 3.5 liter V6 engine that pushes out 263 horsepower and 249 pound foot of torque. Each of these engines will be connected to Ford’s 6F35 six speed automatic transmission.

Ford has not yet told us what kind of fuel economy is. They did say that the four cylinder’s fuel economy will increase 10%. This will be the time when Ford will be introducing the Fusion Hybrid and Mercury Milan Hybrid. Both will feature SmartGauge and can move up to 47 mph when in an all-electric mode and a range of 700 miles. However, the 2010 Fusion will not come with any turbocharged, direct-injection EcoBoost power trains.

10/21/2008 - F-150 Wins 2009 Truck Of Texas Award

Ford celebrated this week after their brand new F-150 was crowned the 2009 Truck of Texas over the weekend. Both the Ford F-150 and the Dodge ram were in for the running and were competing against each other as well as there other competitors the Toyota Tundra and Chevy Silverado.

Close to 15% of the full-size trucks that are sold in the U.S. can be found in Texas and the king of all the sales usually goes to the winner of the Truck of Texas award. That isn’t all the Ford won. They also were given the best truck-line award, the best CUV of Texas, and the best SUV of Texas. All thanks to their new Flex and Expedition King Ranch models.

Not only will Ford be celebrating their accomplishments – but we can only imagine the amount of consumers they will be given because of the publicity.

10/18/2008 - Ford To Sell Mazda Shares

Recent rumors have stated that Ford selling off a portion of its 33.4% stake in Mazda. If this happens Ford will end up losing a majority of the ownership status that it has held for such a long time now.

The Nikkei daily in Japan has been keeping a close eye of this and according to the latest news 20% of Mazda to 20 Japanese firms – which include some insurance companies. This will leave Ford with only a stake of around 13%. A few to be apart of the purchase are five insurance companies which include; steel companies, Denso, and trading companies.

Allegedly Ford does not want share its competition. Because of this when the Mazda shares are split into 20 different parts it will make things much more difficult. The price of just 1% of Mazda’s ownership is close to the amount of $40 million. The total sale of everything could be $1 billion. The deal could be announced next month – but we don’t know when.
